Opponents of the Vancouver Aquarium’s continued captivity of dolphins and whales are taking part in an international day of protest.

Janos Mate is with Whale Friends, one of the groups involved:

“The very nature of confinement equals cruelty, and suffering for these animals. There is nothing, regardless of what good intention the aquarium may have, there is nothing they can do to change the fact that these animals suffer in captivity.”

Mate says the “Empty the Tanks rally could be one of the biggest demonstrations against whale and dolphin captivity in Vancouver’s history.

The rally begins at 2:30pm on Saturday outside the aquarium.

  1. Not sure how Janos knows these animals don’t like captivity. Does he speak “whale”? Maybe they love the easy life. Not saying they do but at least I’ll admit I have no way of knowing for certain.
