Families of Slocan Lake victims reach out to underwater recovery society

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

Officials could soon be calling off the search for the bodies of three young men whose canoe overturned in Slocan Lake just over a week ago.

Sergeant Darryl Little with New Denver RCMP says they will decide by the end of the day whether the search efforts will continue.

Meanwhile, the family of the victims have been in touch with the Legacy Water Search and Recovery Society about continuing the search if officials decide to discontinue it.

“If there is equipment that we could bring as well, we would be more than happy to organize the volunteers and get the equipment together and get ourselves up there.”

That’s Scott Lebus with the volunteer recovery society.

He wants to remind canoe enthusiasts how unstable the boats can be and to always wear a life jacket.
