Funeral Directors don't like the high cost of dying either

The BC Funeral Association is sounding the alarm over more taxes they claim are burdening families.
Executive Director Ellen Henry says funeral goods formerly exempt from the PST may now be considered taxable.

“The administrative policy that previously allowed goods such as caskets and urns to be sold without PST to the customer, this is a big change and will impact grieving families.”

Henry says funeral homes refuse to add the tax- which could reach 400 dollars on an average funeral.
Businesses fear the government may hold funeral homes liable retroactively.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance says it is reviewing the issue.

  1. If the charge is for $400 then the cost of the funeral is around $5700 on an ‘average’ funeral. I sure am glad these people are concerned about the costs people are paying
