The RCMP dive team is scouring Slocan Lake this morning in the West Kootenay, looking for three young men whose canoe tipped on the weekend.
RCMP Sergeant Darryl Little of the New Denver detachment says, “The dive team is here. They went into the water about 9 o’clock this morning. We have two dive boats out with a total of four people on each boat. We’re using underwater cameras and then towing divers behind on underwater sleds.”
Little says crews still consider this a rescue mission, but the chances of finding the boys alive are increasingly slim.
The canoe, carrying four people, flipped over on the lake on Saturday afternoon.
The body of 19-year-old Lily Harmer-Taylor was recovered that day, but three males, ages 15 to 21, couldn’t be found.
Little says the four weren’t wearing life-jackets.
He adds the dive team will stay in the water as long as possible, given how deep and how cold it is.
