IHIT says May 1st suspicious deaths in Surrey is a case of murder-suicide

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

Police have confirmed that two suspicious deaths that occurred earlier this month in North Surrey were a murder-suicide.

A mother and daughter were found dead at a home on 111-A Avenue at 136th Street on May 1st.

Homicide investigators first called their deaths suspicious, saying no ‘third-party’ was involved.

Sergeant Adam MacIntosh now says the daughter, 61-year-old Kathleen Maximuik, killed her mother, 83-year-old Anne Shouchuk.

MacIntosh says Kathleen suffered ongoing health problems.

He says, “That’s part of what the B.C. Coroner is looking into — ultimately, what was going on with Kathleen that resulted in her taking her own life after taking her mom’s.”

He says this isn’t an assisted-suicide.

This marks at least four murder-suicides in B.C. in the past six weeks.
