Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

A crewman was rescued from a cargo ship last night off the coast of Vancouver Island – after being injured on board.

After falling down a set of steep stairs, a crewman suffered a serious lower body injury.

He was on a cargo ship coming from South Korea and was still 370 kilometers off shore.

So Coast Guard Officer John Millman says the Filipino national had to be rescued.

“They were inbound for Victoria but the delay, we couldn’t have left him on board the ship that long, and it was assessed by EHS that he needed to come off immediately.”

The 51 year old was hoisted off the boat last night and transferred to to BC Ambulance in stable condition.
