One man is dead and three Mounties have been injured after what police say was a “horrific confrontation” with a gunman in St. Paul, Alberta — 150-kilometres east of Edmonton.
Chief Superintendent Randy McInnis says the incident began after gunshots were heard outside the town’s R-C-M-P detachment.
A black Dodge pickup truck was seen speeding away from the parking lot but it soon turned back and struck a police vehicle.
McInnis says the pickup driver then opened fire on officers, who shot back killing the man.
A female Mountie who was in the police vehicle that was rammed suffered serious injuries to both legs and was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital.
Two other male officers sustained minor injuries and were treated and released.
