Online date leads to lawsuit

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

A 39 year old Nanaimo woman is suing a man she met on an online dating site after he sexually assaulted her on their first date.
In a notice of civil claim, the woman says the pair met at a bar in November 2011, went for a walk, and returned to her home so her date could use the washroom.
The documents say he proceeded to use force to sexually assault her in her own home, and later pleaded guilty.
Lisa Steacy is with Vancouver Rape Relief.

“I think that this woman obviously was determined to go through with the criminal process, and is now looking to hold this man accountable for the violence that he did to her through civil court also. I think that it probably speaks to her tenacity and her bravery.”

The victim is suing for aggravated damages.
