When the federal budget comes down Tuesday afternoon the President of the BC Chamber of Commerce says he hopes to see an emphasis on skills training to help boost the economy.
While much has been made of the plan to give funds for large infrastructure projects, John Winter says real economic growth will come from giving workers the right skills to complete jobs that are already in the works.
“We certainly do have a national infrastructure deficit to catch up with and certainly that’s a major employer, but I’m not sure that’s what we really need to be doing from an employment perspective here in British Columbia. We’ve got more than enough on your agenda, or our menu to deal with, but we need to find people to do the work.”
The budget is set to be tabled at one o’clock.
