UPDATE: Burnaby Hospital ER undergoing cleaning, restoration after early-morning flood

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

Burnaby Mounties say the 38-year-old-man responsible for smashing six cop cars is behind the flooding of the ER in Burnaby General today.

Fraser Health says Burnaby Hospital’s emergency room is open, but if you can go to another hospital, it’s advised you do.

Tasleem Juma with the health authority says anyone who arrives at Burnaby will be treated, but if you have an emergency, call 911, and an ambulance will take you to a different hospital.

Cleaning and restoration are still being done at the ER after it flooded this morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Smith says it happened around 3:00.

He says patients had to be moved to other parts of the hospital.

“Probably a good two to three inches of water. So we dispatched half the fire trucks in Burnaby to that incident to help them clean it up,” says Smith.

Smith says the water seeped through the two floors below.

18 beds were soaked.

The emergency room is still open but ambulances are diverting patients to other hospitals as the clean up continues.
